Frequently Asked Questions
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing trauma — which is often stored in the body, not just the mind. By engaging the body as an active ally in the healing process, we can gently release stored trauma, unresolved emotions, and nervous system patterns that keep you stuck in cycles of fight, flight, or freeze. Through this process, you begin to move beyond states of suffering such as anxiety, depression, and repetitive life patterns, creating more space for ease, presence, and emotional freedom.
How does somatic therapy differ from talk therapy?
In somatic therapy, the body becomes our greatest ally in healing. Rather than rehashing painful memories through talk alone, we slow down and tune into the sensations and feelings that live within the body — where trauma is often held. Through gentle awareness and somatic release techniques, we help the nervous system safely process and release unresolved emotional experiences that may be keeping you stuck in cycles of stress or suffering.
As these stored patterns begin to unwind, you experience greater ease, emotional resilience, and a deeper connection to your body and inner peace. This work expands your capacity to handle life’s challenges with more grace and helps you return to the present moment with clarity, choice, and freedom.
What can take years in traditional talk therapy often unfolds much more quickly through somatic work — sometimes in just one or two sessions. When the nervous system is regulated, the body naturally restores its capacity to heal, opening you to more vitality, joy, and ease.
What can I expect in the first few sessions?
Each session is tailored to meet you where your nervous system is in the moment. During the first four sessions, we focus on building safety and understanding through gentle pacing and nervous system education. You’ll learn how your unique nervous system operates — what triggers it, what helps it settle, and how to work with it rather than against it.
Instead of diving straight into your full history, we move slowly and intentionally to ensure your system feels supported, not overwhelmed. This gradual approach allows your body to integrate the work at its own pace, helping you leave each session feeling more grounded, regulated, and resourced than when you arrived.
What is co-regulating touch and how can it help settle my nervous system?
Co-regulating touch is a gentle, hands-on approach that helps your nervous system reorient back to a natural state of safety and ease. This work takes place on a massage table, where you’ll be fully clothed and supported in a deeply restful environment.
During a session, I work with key areas of the body — including the kidneys, brainstem, feet, and stomach — which all play an important role in regulating the nervous system. As your body drops into a state of regulation, its innate ability to heal and restore balance naturally comes forward.
Over time, this practice retrains your nervous system to return to safety more quickly, even in moments of stress. You begin to experience more peace, presence, and a grounded sense of agency in everyday life.
What is Reiki and how does it support healing?
Reiki is a gentle, body-based approach to healing that works through the body’s energy centers, known as chakras. These chakras are invisible energy wheels that run from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, each influencing different aspects of your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
When life becomes stressful or overwhelming, these energy centers can become blocked or imbalanced, which may contribute to feelings of anxiety, fatigue, or disconnection. Through light touch and energetic attunement, Reiki helps clear these blockages, allowing your energy to flow freely and your nervous system to return to a natural state of balance and ease.
Reiki also has a deeply spiritual dimension. During sessions, intuitive insights may arise that offer additional clarity and guidance to support your healing journey on all levels — body, mind, and spirit.
