Healing Developmental & Birth Trauma

Developmental and birth trauma often begin before we have words — shaping how we experience safety, love, and connection in the world. These early imprints live deep within the body and nervous system, influencing how we relate to ourselves and others, often without conscious awareness.

When early needs for safety, attunement, or nurturance weren’t met, the body learns to adapt. It may stay in states of hypervigilance, collapse, or disconnection to survive. These patterns can show up later in life as anxiety, chronic tension, emotional reactivity, difficulty trusting others, or feeling unworthy of love and belonging.

Developmental and birth trauma can show up in the body and life as:

  • A deep sense of unsafety or distrust

  • Difficulty relaxing or resting

  • Trouble forming or maintaining close relationships

  • Feelings of emptiness or disconnection from self

  • Chronic tension or pain

  • Emotional numbness or hypersensitivity

  • Perfectionism, self-criticism, or people-pleasing

  • Feeling unseen, unworthy, or not “enough”

Through Somatic Experiencing®, we work gently with the body’s innate wisdom to heal these early imprints of trauma. Instead of reliving the past, we create new experiences of safety and connection in the present moment — allowing the nervous system to complete unfinished stress responses and reorganize toward regulation.

As your body learns what safety feels like, your system naturally begins to trust connection again. You start to experience more ease, authenticity, and presence — reconnecting to the part of you that has always been whole.

Co-Regulating Touch & Reiki for Nervous System Repair

In addition to Somatic Experiencing®, I offer Co-Regulating Touch and Reiki, two deeply nurturing modalities that help repair the early attachment wounds and energetic imbalances that often arise from developmental and birth trauma.

Both modalities support the nervous system in learning how to “just be” — to rest, receive, and soften. They provide a direct experience of safety and co-regulation, allowing the body to heal efficiently and effectively from the inside out.

Co-Regulating Touch

Co-Regulating Touch uses gentle, attuned contact to communicate safety and presence to the nervous system. For those with developmental or early attachment trauma, touch can feel both longed for and frightening. In this work, we move slowly and with care, allowing your system to feel what safe, nurturing contact truly feels like — often for the first time.

Through consistent, regulated touch, your body begins to repair early attachment ruptures, expanding your capacity for trust, connection, and self-regulation. This modality helps restore your body’s natural rhythm — moving from survival to security, from contraction to openness.

Reiki

Reiki works with the subtle energy body to clear the energetic residues of early trauma and restore balance to the entire system. Developmental and birth trauma often create energetic patterns of depletion or fragmentation. Reiki gently harmonizes your energy field, bringing coherence, calm, and a sense of wholeness.

As your energy aligns, your nervous system follows — settling into deeper states of rest, presence, and connection. Reiki supports the reawakening of your life force energy, helping you remember that you are safe, loved, and complete.
